How to Get Help For Computer Problems And Virus Removal
Dose your computer run slow? Do you have a problem printing? Did you get a virus on your PC? Do you get pop ups all the time or error messages on you PC? These are all things that can be fixed using online or remote technical support.
You may not need to take your computer to a shop and pay big bucks to get it fixed. Many computer problems are software or malware related and do not require you to wait days for the repair to be completed. There is no need to crawl under that desk and unplug all the wires and load up the car then haul the computer up to the Geeks shop and pay over $120.00 to have them look at it.
With technology today you can have your technical support completed at a fraction of the price using online or remote technical support. Most companies charge much less than you may be charged at a computer shop. Some companies that perform remote technical support also guarantee that if they cannot resolve the problem with a remote session, then they will refund you 100% of the fee.
Generally the way you get the technical support completed is, first you find a company that meets your needs. Look at their qualifications such as Microsoft certifications and previous experience. The best way to do this is to visit the company website and look for customer reviews. Then look for some information about the company. Usually there is a web page dedicated about the company or the person that runs the company, this page is about the company or how the company got started. Also is there a phone number to contact the company? Check to if they provide a toll free phone number for you to call and also online chat is helpful.
When you find a company you may want to see if they guarantee their work. If they state that you will be refunded 100% if the problem cannot be resolved then that is a good sign that they are serious about doing a quality job for you. Also check to see if they charge by the minute. If the company is charging by the minute then watch out! Some companies try to get you to sign up for a long term contract, you may want to stay away from them. They have a reason for doing so, they pretty much know that you wont need much help in the near future but you may end up paying close to 200.00 over the contract term.
Some people have said I don’t want to let a stranger access my computer using remote technical support. But in reality your system is safe. You can watch the remote technician work on your computer. You cannot do that when it is at the shop. You can end the remote session anytime. So if your having a computer problem you can save time and money using a remote technical support service.

My Computer is Slow? Do I need Virus Removal?
A computer can slow down when there are not enough resources available to run multiple programs at the same time. A computer can slow down because it has spyware or needs virus removal.
Some things you should know about your computer are for instance how much memory is on your system and what the processor speed is. Some older computer only have 512 megabytes of ram.
Now do not confuse RAM (random access memory) with your hard drive space, or the size of your hard drive, It is not the same thing.
Ram is consumed by the operating system and use by programs to enable them to run. When a program is ended or closed the RAM become available to other programs or your operating system.
For instance the more programs you have running or the more Internet Explorer windows you have open, the more RAM you will use up. The hard drive store your operating system and your programs. You install your programs on to your hard drive and they stay there until you remove or uninstall them.
If you use all of the physical RAM on your computer then the computer system will try to compensate and start to use the hard drive as “Virtual” RAM. When this happens it swaps data between real RAM and Virtual RAM (the hard disk) Virtual Ram is also known as virtual memory.
Eventually you may get a popup message from the computer system telling you the system is low on virtual memory. This is because the allocated space on your hard drive for the use of virtual memory is now pretty much all used up. Sometime the computer system will change the settings to allow more space on the hard drive to be used for virtual memory.
Some technicians will adjust the settings to allow more hard drive space to be allocated for the virtual memory.
This is really just a temporary solution in my opinion. When the computer is swapping this data back and forth, it is more work for the hard drive. Your drive will work harder and get hotter. If you have an older system you may really overwork your drive and this can contribute failure.
There are some adjustments or changes in the way you “compute” that can make your system run better some things like do not start instant messaging programs when you do not need them.
Do not have your camera software or ipod software running in the back ground.
Many of the little icons in the lower right corner of your task bar or system tray can be “ended” but do not end your antivirus icons.
Generally you can right click on them and click on end , quit, or perhaps close. You might see your instant messenger icons down there. Some instant messengers can you a significant amount of memory, ending these may make a big difference.
If your computer has plenty of memory available then you probably have some malicious software on it that you are not aware of, so you may need virus removal or spyware removal. The malicious software can be doing things in the background, that is slowing the system down and tracking your computer use. If this is the case seek virus removal right away or it could get worse and eventually become non responsive.
What Is A Root Kit Virus?
Sometime your computer may start acting strange, as if it has a virus. Even after after running multiple scans with various virus removal tools you stall have not resolved the problem.
If this happens to you then it is very possible your computer is infected with a hidden virus known as a root kit.
A root kit is a serious virus that most antivirus programs do not detect.
Many virus removal tools will also not detect a root kit virus as well.
If you have a root kit virus there are a few ways to detect it and remove it.
There are specific programs designed to detect root kits and remove them.
Some of the programs will identify suspect files that may be a root kit and then you will need to research the
files, to verify that they are in fact part of a virus.
Other root kit programs are able to detect and remove the root lit automatically.
These programs are very powerful and if they are used incorrectly you may render you computer
useless.
Other way to detect a root kit virus are to use special cd disk that contain a non windows operating system.
One such operating system is Linux. The dick will boot up to the Linux operating system and then you can scan the computer using a virus scanner that way.
Kaspersky rescue disk is one such disk. You would need to download the ISO file and burn it to the cd disk using the appropriate software in order for it to work properly. Once the disk is created you would then restart your computer booting from the newly created cd. Then scan the hard drive.
Another company called Avira make a rescue disk that also works well.
Keep in mind that if any critical files needed to start the computer are infected, your computer may not start up again.
You should always document the name of any file detected as infected. That way you can replace them with “clean” copies. That can be a bit a task if you do not have the right tools.

Simple Computer Maintenance Ignored Leads to Failure
Many people do not realize that a computer needs maintenance.
Most of the time you purchase a computer and put it under your desk and use it for years with out performing important maintenance.
The information here will help to increase the life of your computer.
Computers have fans inside them. They are used to keep the internal components cool and prevent over heating.
There is a power supply that may have one or two fans in it.
There is usually a fan located on top of a “finned” block of aluminium or copper.
This block is called a heat sink.
A heat sink is used to draw heat away from vital components that cannot tolerate excessive heat.
In your computer the heatsink draws heat away from the main processing chip, This chip is the heart of your computer. If it gets to hot the system will get slower and slower then eventually it will shut down.
When the chip is cooled off the computer will run properly. After time this excess heat can permanently damage the computer.
Some computers have other fans to help move air thru the computer, in one side in out the other. When this
happens it also draws in dust… A LOT of dust, and pet hair if you have pets. It will build up on the fans and the heat sink and pretty much everything inside the computer.
If you have a high end video card it probably has a small heat sink with a little fan on it that cools the video processor chip.
This little fan may get covered with dust and eventually fail. When it fails the video chip overheats and then your graphics or the display may become distorted. The fan will need to be replaced on your video card if that happens.
So its a good idea to keep the inside of the computer physically clean. You may want to seek the help of an experienced computer technician. However you can do it yourself if you are careful
First UNPLUG the computer. You want the power cord removed from any source of electricity.
You may need a screw driver to remove the screws that hold the side panel on to the computer usually two screw on a desk top computer.
You will need to purchase a can of CLEAN COMPRESSED air. DO NOT USE THE VACUUM!
The VAC can create static around the nozzle tip and and any static discharge can damage the components in your computer.
So it is very important that you do not touch anything inside the computer.
Take the little straw that comes with the can of air and attach it to the nozzle.
Clean everything inside the computer being careful not to damage anything, do not drop the can onto the internal parts of the computer.
Replace the side panel and reconnect everything that you may have disconnected and you should be all set for about 6-12 months depending on the environment your computer is in.

What is The Google Redirect Virus?
A redirect virus will redirect your web browser to a different website, Instead of where you wanted it to go.
Many times this is to send you to a website with advertising in order to get you to purchase something.
Other times it may be to send you to a fake internet banking site to try to get your account information.
The redirect malware or virus will usually modify a file on your computer that is called the “hosts” file
Before we discuss what the hosts file is. I want to explain something about how you get to a website with your web browser.
There are a few popular web browsers today some are Internet Explorer also referred to as IE
there is FireFox, Google Chrome, and also Safari. There are more available but these seems to be the ones that I see people using the most.
First of all a website has a numeric address, similar to a phone number or a street address.
So for instance Google has an address of 208.69.32.231 (referred to as IP address) you could type that into the address bar of your web browser and it would take you to Google. The problem is that trying to remember numbers is much more difficult for humans, so we use names.
When you request a website by name the first time your computer looks at the hosts file to see if it is listed there, usually there are no entries in the hosts file. If there is a entry for google.com with ANY IP address your computer will send you to THAT IP address even if it is not an address that belongs to Google.
When there is no entry for Google or the website you want to go to the computer will contact a domain name server (DNS) to see what the numeric address is of the website.
It learns that Google = 208.69.32.231 and the computer then displays the website you were looking for that resides at the particular address.
The redirect virus creates an entry for the Google site or any website and adds a fake IP address or an IP address that belongs to a different website. When you want to go to that particular site your computer will go to the fake/incorrect IP address that is in the hosts file.
So to fix this you first need to scan the computer and also fix the hosts file.
The hosts file can also be used to help protect you from bad websites. If you had a list of all the bad websites in the world, you could enter them into the hosts file and use the IP address of 127.0.0.1
The entry would look like this
www.badwebsitename.com 127.0.0.1
Then if you or someone using your computer tried to go to one of the bad websites listed in your computers hosts file, the web browser would display a error page that basically says the page cannot be displayed.
So you may wonder what is 127.0.0.1 or where is 127.0.0.1 Simple answer, it is your own computer.
Its called a loop back address.
So since there is not a website running on your computers loop-back address you get the page cannot be displayed error message, and that’s much better then going to a website that has viruses or malware on it.
There are websites that maintain a hosts file with a list of well known bad Websites. If you replace your hosts file with it, you can keep your system safer from malware.
There are other types of viruses that can cause a redirect, some can actually change the setting in your router and it will send you to a bad DNS server.
Then the “poisoned” DNS server will redirect you. So you may think the problem lies within the computer but it may also be that your router was affected by a virus.
If you think you have a redirect virus on your computer or router you can visit 123virusFreePc.com for remote virus removal and technical support for help.
How can I prevent spam?
General recommendations
Below is a listing of general recommendations on how to handle spam that should help in reducing spam.
Be careful where you post your e-mail address. Never post in chat rooms, news groups, or other public places. We recommend that when you need to post or send your e-mail that you send it to a specific person, setup a temporary e-mail account as explained in number two, or make the e-mail hard to read by typing something such as “joe
If you are concerned about a company sharing your e-mail address, register the site with a fake e-mail address.
Never buy products or use services that solicit to you in an e-mail.
Never send e-mail or reply to an e-mail requesting that you be removed or to unsubscribe unless you are familiar with the company. Some individuals and companies use this reply as a method of verifying the e-mail is valid and using this information to subscribe you to other mailing lists. If you do not know the individual or company simply delete the e-mail.
When filling out any type of form on the Internet, watch carefully for any type of check box that by default may be checked for you to receive a newsletter or share your e-mail with a a third-party.
When signing up for any e-mail list, see if the company has any type of SPAM or e-mail sharing disclaimer. See Computer Hope’s Legal page for our example.
Be careful who you send your e-mail to. Sites that require you to sign up or request an e-mail for free products, free services, or contests commonly share your e-mail as a method of generating revenue.
Don’t send or recommend a friends or families e-mail address unless you are familiar with the service.
Consider using a complicated username, for example joe@domain is a lot more easy to guess than joe432@domain.com. Many spam programs simply spam a long list of common names to a domain. If your username is common you’ll get hit with this type of spam.
Never forward an e-mail that claims that it is capable of tracking the e-mail as it is sent or will help generate revenue for a certain cause to the more people it is forwarded to. These e-mails are commonly referred to as a chain mail and are commonly false and help individuals get additional e-mail address for SPAM.
Send an e-mail with the e-mail header to the ISP or web host of the user who is sending you the spam. Below is a short list of some of these e-mails.
abuse@aol.com – File a complaint against an AOL users.
abuse@hotmail.com – File complaints for MSN and Hotmail e-mail addresses.
abuse@geocities.com – File complaints against Geocities users.
abuse@sprint.net – File complaints against Sprint users.
abuse@usa.net – File complaints against USA.NET users.
junkmail@earthlink.net – File complaints against Earthlink users.
Lycos abuse form – File complaints against Lycos, Tripod, or Angelfire users.
Yahoo abuse form or abuse@yahoo.com – File complaints against Yahoo users.
As can be seen in the above examples, it is common for the e-mail to file complaints to be “abuse”, “postmaster”, or “spam” @ the domain name. It is also important to realize that a spammer may spoof an e-mail address making it look as if it is coming from a domain that it really is not coming from.
Send a full copy of SPAM or deceptive e-mail including the e-mail header to uce@ftc.gov. The FTC uses the unsolicited emails stored in this database to pursue law enforcement actions against people who send deceptive spam email.
Check with your Internet Service Provider for their SPAM policy. Many Internet Service Providers may already have SPAM blocking mechanisms in place and may even allow you to forward to them the SPAM messages you receive, helping prevent the same types of e-mail reaching you in the future.
Finally, consider changing your e-mail address and/or getting another e-mail address and only letting friends, family, or the people you want e-mails from know about the new address.
E-mail rules
Many e-mail programs allow users to setup rules to help filter the e-mail as it comes into your computer. A great tip to help filter out important e-mails is to create a rule that moves all e-mail from individuals in your address book to a new folder and/or only keep e-mail from users who are listed in your address book. Below is an example of how Microsoft Outlook users can setup this type of rule.
Users using Microsoft Outlook 97 must download the Rules Wizard before it can be used. The Rules Wizard can be downloaded from our download updates page.
Open Microsoft Outlook
Click Tools and then Rules Wizard.
In the Rules Wizard window click the New button.
Select “Check messages when they arrive” and click Next.
Select “from people or distribution list”
Click the “people or distribution list” link.
Either add each individual person or a distribution list and click Ok.
Click Next
Then choose “move it to the specified folder”
Specify the folder.
Click Finish.

NTLDR is Missing
NTLDR is Missing.
Issue: NTLDR is Missing.
Below are some error messages that may be seen when the computer is booting.
NTLDR is Missing Press any key to restart
Boot: Couldn’t find NTLDR
Please insert another disk
NTLDR is missing
Press Ctrl Alt Del to Restart
Possible causes:
Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.
Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.
Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file.
Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32.
New hard disk drive being added.
Corrupt boot sector / master boot record.
Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable.
Failing to enable USB keyboard support in the BIOS.
Solutions:
Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
Many times this error is caused when there is a floppy disk left in the floppy drive or CD drive so the computer is trying to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CD-ROM. So verify that no floppy disk is in the computer, unless you are intensionally attempting to boot from a diskette.
If you are attempting to boot from a floppy diskette and are receiving this error message then the diskette probably does not have all the necessary files and/or is corrupt.
Some of the items below are more likely to occur when new hardware was just installed and there may have been a incorrect setting in the bios or on the hardware itself.
If you are attempting to install Windows XP or Windows 2000 and are receiving this error message when the computer is booting verify that the computer BIOS has the correct boot settings. So as an example, if you are attempting to run the install from the CDROM make sure the CDROM is the first boot device, and not your hard disk drive.
After that, when the computer is booting you should receive the below prompt.
Press any key to boot from the CD
When you see this message you need to press any key like the Enter key right away, If you don’t it will try to boot from the hard drive and will probably get the NTLDR error again.
If you do not receive the above message and your BIOS boot options are set properly it is possible that your CD-ROM drive may not be booting from the CD-ROM properly. You may need to check that the jumpers are set properly on the CD-ROM drive.
This error has also been known to happen when a memory stick is in a card reader and the computer is attempting to boot from the card reader or a flash drive. If you have any type of card reader or flash reader make sure that no memory stick is inside the computer.
Another cause is the computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS
Make sure that your computer hard disk is properly setup in the BIOS / CMOS setup. Improper settings can cause this error.
Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file
Windows 2000 users
Windows XP users
Windows 2000 users
If your computer is using Microsoft Windows 2000 and you are getting the NTLDR error. Create the following boot.ini file on the floppy diskette drive.
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT=”Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional” /fastdetect
Copy the NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files from another computer using the same operating system. Both of these files are located in the root directory of the primary hard disk drive. For example, C:\NTLDR and C:\NTDETECT.COM should be the locations of these files on many computers.
Please keep in mind that these files are hidden system files.
Once the files have been copied to a floppy diskette reboot the computer and copy the NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files to the root directory of the primary hard disk drive. Below is an example of what commonly should be performed from the A:\> drive.
copy ntldr c:
copy ntdetect.com c:
After the above two files have been copied, remove the floppy diskette and reboot the computer.
Windows XP users
Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the “R” key to repair Windows.
Log into your Windows installation by pressing the “1″ key and pressing enter.
You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is “d.” This letter may be different on your computer.
copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\
Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.
Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file
Edit the boot.ini on the root directory of the hard disk drive and verify that it is pointing to the correct location of your Windows operating system and that the partitions are properly defined.
Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32
If you are getting this error message while you are attempting to upgrade to Windows 2000 or Windows XP from Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows ME running FAT32 please try the suggestions below .
Boot the computer with a Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME bootable diskette.
At the A:\> prompt type:
sys c:
After pressing enter you should receive the “System Transferred” message. Once this has been completed remove the floppy diskette and reboot the computer. New hard disk drive being added If you are unsure if the new drive is blank or not try booting from a bootable diskette and format the new hard disk drive. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP If you are encountering this issue during your setup you may wish to completely erase your computer hard disk drive and all of its existing data and then install Microsoft Windows 2000 / Windows XP. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable If the issue continues it is also a possibility that the computer has a faulty cable, try replacing the hard disk drive cable with another cable and/or a new cable.
If you are attempting to add a new hard disk drive to the computer make sure that drive is a blank drive. Adding a new hard disk drive to a computer that already has Windows installed on it may cause the NTLDR error to occur.
It’s possible your computer’s hard disk drive may have a corrupt boot sector and/or master boot record. These can be repaired through the Microsoft Windows Recovery console by running the fixboot and fixmbr commands.
If you have tried each of the above recommendations that apply to your situation and you continue to experience this issue it is possible you may have a seriously corrupted version of Microsoft Windows. Therefore we would recommend you reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
This issue has been known to be caused by a loose or fault IDE/EIDE cable. If the above recommendation does not resolve your issue and your computer hard disk drive is using an IDE or EIDE interface. Verify the computer hard disk drive cable is firmly connected by disconnected and reconnecting the cable.
